It affects both men and women. It can also be transmitted through contact with contaminated body fluids. For example, the mother may be a carrier and infect the baby during childbirth. It is caused by the bacterium neisseria, which spreads and multiplies rapidly through contact with infected body parts. The microbe is usually found in the urethra, cervix, rectum, pharynx, and conjunctivae.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Symptoms may not manifest in time, which makes treatment more difficult. If they do occur, symptoms appear within 10 days of contracting the bug.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Symptoms in men include:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Greenish yellow or white fluid secretions from the penis<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Redness or irritation at the opening of the urethra<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pain in the testicles and itching<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Burning sensation and pain when urinating<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Co-occurring urine<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pain and burning in the throat<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Symptoms in women include:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Vaginal discharge (white or greenish-yellow fluids, foul smell)<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Synchronicity<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pain and swelling in the neck<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pain during sexual intercourse<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Pain in the abdomen<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Discomfort in the anal area<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>In newborns, the eyes are affected.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>REASONS<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Risk factors that favour the transmission of gonorrhoea:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Personal history of other sexually transmitted diseases<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Not using a condom<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Substance abuse<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Frequent change of partners without the necessary precautions<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>WHAT WE DO<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Condom use is essential in all forms of contact<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Avoiding sexual intercourse when the virus is at its peak<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Avoiding contact with partners who have unusual symptoms such as genital rashes<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> In case someone shows symptoms, both sexual partners should be examined<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>THERAPY<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Administration of antibiotic drugs (in the form of a ceftriaxone injection in combination with taking azithromycin or doxycycline by mouth). Re-testing should be done after the initial administration of antibiotics. Infants should be given special eye drops immediately after birth.
