The caterpillars are found mainly in pine wooded areas, but this does not mean that such areas do not exist in urban centres. Hence the allergic reactions they cause!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Caterpillars are surrounded by toxic trichomes. The trichomes are airborne and so tiny that they can even penetrate clothing, causing severe itchy reactions in our skin. The rash caused by caterpillars usually occurs on exposed parts of the body, such as the upper limbs, face, neck and torso. Depending on the severity of the symptoms, the rash may resemble the form that mosquito bites appear in or more rarely it may be very extensive and then it is called canker sores. Both forms are accompanied by intense itching (itching). This particular disease, mainly concerns children of pre-school and school age, especially in cases where school yards or playgrounds are surrounded by pine trees.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In rarer cases, in addition to dermatological reactions, the allergic reaction may present as rhinitis, conjunctivitis or difficulty breathing, symptoms that most commonly occur in people with atopic predisposition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
